During a question-and-answer session with journalists in the Mejlis (Parliament of Turkey), Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar referred to the senators’ call for US President Joe Biden to officially recognize the Armenian Genocide, ermenihaber reports.
Akar stated this issue usually appears on the agenda in March-April. Reiterating the same statements of the Turkish authorities, he said that they have spoken, discussed and told about this issue many times, and will continue to tell.
Akar claimed that there was written information on the subject in the US National Archives, and called on all intellectuals, including US politicians, as well as media to study the archives.
37 US senators joined the letter of Robert Menendez, Chairman of the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee, calling on US President Joe Biden to follow the Congress and officially recognize the Armenian Genocide.
Menendez reminded Biden in the letter, that he had previously recognized the Armenian Genocide, including during the 2020 election campaign. “We urge you to do the same as President, making it clear that the US Government recognizes this terrible truth,” the letter said.
