The US State Department urges that the representatives of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) visit Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) to assess the situation related to the preservation of historical and cultural heritage, the US State Department spokesperson said in response to the question asked by ‘

“We are closely monitoring the situation in the Nagorno-Karabakh region. We remain committed to helping Armenia and Azerbaijan achieve a peaceful and sustainable settlement to their conflict.
We continue to call on all parties to respect their commitments and obligations under international law, including the protection of religious and cultural heritage sites. We also urge that UNESCO observers be allowed access to the Nagorno-Karabakh region to assess the situation”, reads the response from the US State Department.
