The Parliament of Armenia, by 112 votes in favor, adopted in the second reading the draft law on making changes in the Criminal Code, proposing to toughen the punishment for treason and espionage.
Article 299, Part 1 of the current Criminal Code stipulates imprisonment for a term of 10-15 years. Parliamentarians Vahe Enfiajyan, Naira Zohrabyan and Iveta Tonoyan, the bill authors, propose to replace the sentences with 15-20 years with confiscation of property or without it or life imprisonment. The penalty for espionage will be 12-20 years or life imprisonment.
