Artur Tovmasyan, Speaker of Artsakh National Assembly appealed to UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay, Personal Representative of the OSCE Chairman-in-Office Andrzej Kasprzyk, the World Council of Churches. Tovmasyan’s appeal reads:
We appeal to you to warn about the growing danger for the Armenian cultural and spiritual heritage remained in the territories under the military occupation of Azerbaijan during the war unleashed by Azerbaijan on September 27, 2020, after the complete ceasefire on November 10 of the same year, after the end of all hostilities.
We reaffirm that the Artsakh Republic is committed to the issue of mutual tolerance, respect for cultural values, and is ready to contribute to the provision of practical solutions within the frameworks of international law.
We remind you that the settlement of the conflict, the lasting peace in the region is impossible without the protection of the Armenian cultural and spiritual heritage in the territories occupied by Azerbaijan, including the organization of monitoring by all possible means to prevent ethnic cleansing of Armenians.
