Reuters- State Emergency Services came to the rescue of stranded local resident, Larry Powers after he had to spend the whole day waiting in his vehicle on his property on Monday (March 22) hoping flood waters around Australia's Sydney would subside.
The Hawkesbury and Nepean Rivers have flooded most of north western Sydney, inundating the Pitt Town area where Powers lives.
Safe and sound and grateful for being rescued, Powers said he was just in need of some warm soup or a cup of coffee once back on dry land.
The rains over the past three days have swelled rivers in Australia's most populous state of New South Wales (NSW), causing widespread damage and triggering calls for mass evacuations.
Sydney on Sunday (March 21) recorded the wettest day of the year with almost 111 mm (4.4 inches) of rain, while some regions in NSW's north coast received nearly 900 mm of rain in the last six days, more than three times the March average, government data showed.
