Süddeutsche Zeitung published an article about Aliyev’s dictatorial regime. It reads that Ilham Aliyev settles his problems in Azerbaijan through force, and in abroad – through “caviar diplomacy”.
Aliyev has changed the Constitution for staying in power good. He wins in elections exclusively through manipulation. Opposition figures, government critics and human rights activists are arrested in the country.
Süddeutsche Zeitung has particularly touched upon the “caviar diplomacy” and the fact that kilograms of caviar help to hide Aliyev’s regime, the human rights violations and elections frauds in the country.
The article notes that Ilham Aliyev has inherited the power from his father. Many insist that Ilham Aliyev was a gambler then. All the casinos were closed in Azerbaijan in 1997 because Heydar Aliyev wanted to control his son’s addiction. It is stated that last year he managed to do what his father did not. Azerbaijan now controls over one part of Nagorno-Karabakh. This war seemed to be a well-thought-out policy inside the country, but from the outside, it was quite risky. “Gambler Aliyev had a good luck” concludes the author.
