Russia is ready for a difficult development of the situation in relations with the United States, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said, RIA Novosti reports.
"So the situation (in relations with the United States - ed.), in fact, is not easy, but we are ready for such a development of events," Lavrov said at a meeting of the board of trustees of the Gorchakov Foundation.
He recalled the voiced position that the Russian Federation will be ready to cooperate with the United States "only in those areas that are of interest to us, and only on terms that are beneficial to us."
Lavrov stressed that under the current conditions, the role of international contacts through civil societies is growing.
Earlier, US President Joe Biden, when asked by the media whether he considers his Russian counterpart a "killer," replied that he did. He also noted that Putin will "answer" for alleged interference in the American elections. In response to the proposal of the President of the Russian Federation to talk, the White House said that Biden and Putin had already talked and that the United States was in contact with the Russian leadership.
