Boston Mayor Martin Walsh apologized to Armenians for earlier making a statement in support of Azerbaijani fraud in connection with the Khojaly events.
He officially rescinded the recent proclamation.
Mayor’s apology letter particularly reads; “Unfortunately on our part, this was done without our typical review process, which includes conferring with all those potentially impacted. Following conversations with leaders of the Armenian-American community, we realize that this proclamation has been hurtful to many of you.
Our goal when issuing a proclamation is to honor and celebrate the contributions of Bostonians from all walks of life, and not to engage in international matters that can cause pain or divisiveness”.
Mayor shared his praise with the Armenians, emphasizing their great contribution to the development of Boston. He noted that Armenian-American community created one of the most precious public spaces in their city, the Armenian Heritage Park. Walsh also recalled that in 2015 he took part in the events dedicated to the Armenian Genocide 100th anniversary, emphasizing that he attaches great importance to the relations of with the Armenian community and Armenia.
