Within the framework of his visit to the Republic of Iraq on February 24, the RA Deputy Foreign Minister Artak Apitonyan met with the Chairman of the Kurdistan Democratic Party Masoud Barzani in Iraqi Kurdistan.
Welcoming the Deputy Foreign Minister, Masoud Barzani noted that the Armenian-Kurdish historical relations go back centuries, and this strong connection is the basis of the friendship between the two peoples. Barzani praised the decision of the Armenian authorities to open a Consulate General in Erbil, emphasizing that the Armenian diplomatic mission will be a stimulus for the development of relations between the two friendly peoples.
Artak Apitonyan thanked for the warm reception. He stressed that Armenia attaches importance to the development of multifaceted cooperation with the Kurdistan Autonomy and expressed confidence that the establishment of the Consulate General of the Republic of Armenia in Erbil will gratly contribute to the further strengthening of the mutually beneficial agenda.
The interlocutors also exchanged views on number of issues on the regional and international agenda.
