Seiko Hashimoto is appointed as the new chief of the “Tokyo 2020” Organizing Committee. The Executive Committee made the relevant decision was at the meeting of the organization.
The 56-year-old Hashimoto is a former speed skater and track cyclist, seven-time Olympic Games participant and a bronze medal winner in the 1,500-meter speed skating competition in 1992. She was the Senior Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan.
Since September 2019, she has been the Minister in charge of the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games. Yoshiro Mori, already the former Head of the Organizing Committee, has stepped down after making sexist statements.
Tokyo Olympic games will be held from July 23 to August 8, while Paralympic Games - from August 24 to September 5.
