The Iran-Russia 2021 joint maritime security exercise will begin in the North Indian Ocean on Tuesday. The exercise will be held with the participation of ground and aviation units of the Iranian and Russian navies, Pars Today reports.
Except for the Iranian Army and the ground and aviation units of the IRGC, Russian subdivision of naval vessels will be involved in the exercises, including Stoka shipwreck, Kala logistics ship and a helicopter.
The purpose of the joint military exercises called “The Iran-Russia Maritime Safety Belt 2021” is to strengthen the security in the region and to expand cooperation between Russia and Iran. The other objectives of the exercise are to strengthen the security of the international maritime trade, the fight against piracy, the exchange of information in the field of marine rescue, the exchange of operational, and tactical experience.
During the drills, various tactical exercises will be carried out, such as rescuing the swimmer from fire, launching the attacking ship, opening fire on special targets, and other tactical and practical exercises.
Last time a joint Russian-Iranian naval exercise was held in the Indian Ocean in 2019. At that time, the Chinese armed forces also took part.
