Azerbaijan may reconsider its cooperation with UNESCO if the organization does not maintain its "international status". The statement came from the Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, who received the newly appointed Minister of Culture Anar Kerimov and commented on this international organization's request to send a mission to Nagorno Karabakh, RIA Novosti reported.
Earlier, UNESCO stated that they were waiting for Azerbaijan's response to the possibility of sending experts to Artsakh on a mission to preserve cultural heritage. And on December 21, UNESCO Director-General for Cultural Affairs Ernesto Ottone said that they had repeatedly appealed to the Azerbaijani authorities on this issue, but in vain.
