The municipality of Twin Falls, Idaho, has recognized the independence of the Artsakh Republic, for which the Armenian National Committee of America expressed its gratitude on Facebook.
The statement issued by the municipality of Twin Falls speaks of Artsakh being a historical Armenian territory, inhabited by native Armenians. There is also a reference to Stalin handing over Artsakh to Soviet Azerbaijan in 1921.
The declaration also mentions the repression of Azerbaijan against Armenians due to protests for independence, which led to the massacre of ethnic Armenians in Sumgait, Kirovabad and Baku and the deportation of more than 350,000 Christians from Azerbaijan.
It is also mentioned that the city of Twin Falls hosted many Armenians deported from Azerbaijan due to religious persecution.
