The Russian border guards will also be deployed in some parts of the Syunik region on the border with Azerbaijan. In a conversation with 1lurer.am, the RA Ministry of Defense reported this, referring to media reports that Defense Minister Vagharshak Harutyunyan signed a secret agreement with the Russian side on the instructions of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, handing over the protection of Syunik positions to Russian border guards.
"The Minister of Defense could not officially sign any document related to the demarcation of the borders of the Republic of Armenia. The Armenian Defense Minister has only agreed with his Russian counterparts that Russian border guards will be deployed in some parts of Syunik for security reasons", the Defense Ministry said.
