On December 8, within the framework of his working visit to France, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia Ara Ayvazyan met with the Director-General of UNESCO Audrey Azoulay.
The interlocutors praised the traditional close cooperation established between Armenia and UNESCO. They also referred to the situation in the region as a result of Turkish-Azerbaijani aggression against Artsakh. The Director-General of UNESCO expressed her deepest condolences on the loss of life.
Aivazian drew the attention of UNESCO Director-General to the outrageous manifestations of intolerance towards the Armenian cultural and religious monuments of Artsakh under the occupation of Azerbaijan. According to Minister, the deliberate destruction of the Armenian historical and cultural heritage by Azerbaijan, the attempts to desecrate or falsify their identity are a clear violation of the norms of international law, contradict the values of civilization and, accordingly, are strongly condemned.
Minister Ayvazyan noted that the rapid response of international organizations to prevent a new cultural genocide by Azerbaijan is important in order to hold the perpetrators accountable and fully prevent such actions.
