The Adviser to the Artsakh President Davit Babayan confirmed to RIA Novosti the news of the imminent opening of the Artsakh airport, but did not specify the dates.
The airport near Stepanakert was built in 1974. After the reconstruction in 2012, the airport was technically ready for operation, but Baku warned that it would consider flights to Stepanakert as a violation of Azerbaijani airspace, and did not rule out forcing the planes to land.
There was no regular civil air communication from the airport.
