The Armenian National Committee of America (ANCA) reports that U.S. Congressmen Frank Pallone, Gus Bilirakis, Jackie Speier, and Adam Schiff are calling for the terms of the ceasefire imposed on Armenia by Turkey and Azerbaijan are currently considered invalid. They also urge the Trump administration to re-engage in the OSCE Minsk Group process and pursue a settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict based on the fundamental right to self-determination. The US Congressmen also called on the US to provide humanitarian and demining assistance to ensure the safe return of Armenian civilians to Artsakh.
In a letter to US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, the pro-Armenian congressmen noted: "The United States cannot allow the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh to be dictated by Turkey and Russia alone". They urged the deployment of international peacekeepers to monitor the ceasefire.
The congressmen also support Artsakh's role in the ongoing peace process and the international recognition of Artsakh's right to self-determination. "Without recognition, they (the Armenians of Artsakh) will continue to face the threat of deportation by Azerbaijani and Turkish forces without any official compensation", the statement said.
