The United States and France expect more clarity from Russia on the terms of a complete cessation of hostilities in Nagorno-Karabakh, as well as Turkey's role in the agreement. This was announced by high-ranking US State Department officials at a briefing with journalists, TASS reports.
They were asked about the talks between Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian in Paris. "They talked a lot about Nagorno Karabakh. As two (OSCE Minsk Group) co-chairs, they (the French side) agree with us. As before, we are committed to the role of co-chairs in the Minsk Group peace process", the US diplomats said.
According to them, the foreign ministers of the United States and France "recognized the actions taken by Russia, which led to a ceasefire, which in fact lasts for about a week." At the same time, they acknowledged that there are still many issues that require clarification from Russia on the parameters of this agreement, including the role of Turkey.
"Both officials noted that Russia has invited the co-chairs to Moscow to clarify. Telephone conversations took place between the Co-Chairs.
US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo stated that the settlement of the conflict in Nagorno Karabakh should be carried out within the framework of the Minsk Group. In particular, he noted that the United States is concerned about the growing military potential of Turkey", said the officials.
