On November 17, a delegation led by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and the President of the ICRC, Peter Maurer met in Moscow. In his speech, Lavrov, in particular, noted:
"Dear Mr. Maurer, We are glad to host you again in Moscow.
Our contacts are regular. We have a lot to do together․ Unfortunately, the number of humanitarian crises and conflicts in the world is not decreasing.
Now we have additional opportunities and platforms for cooperation, I mean Nagorno Karabakh. One week ago, the presidents of Azerbaijan, Russia and the Prime Minister of Armenia signed a trilateral ceasefire statement. A Russian peacekeeping force is stationed in the conflict zone. We know how long the International Committee of the Red Cross has been working in this region. We are interested in strengthening our already close cooperation.
I am confident that your visit will be fruitful and will contribute to the further development of a close partnership between the Russian Federation and the ICRC".
