The RA Deputy Prime Minister Tigran Avinyan mentioned in a conversation with the Public TV that when the enemy started shelling the entire Artsakh frontline with missiles and artillery, martial law was declared in Armenia.
According to Avinyan, the Prime Minister clearly stated in the National Assembly that all the previously negotiated documents offered an option - return of 7 regions without any preconditions. The proposal was rejected by all three factions, the way to fight was chosen, the way to fight with dignity. Tigran Avinyan stated that for more than 40 days the Armenian army has waged truly heroic battles against disproportionate, incomparable forces.
"The logic of the military operations of these days brought to a point when there was already a danger that Stepanakert would fall. And that would lead to other potential problems in the Martuni, Askeran regions, and the rest of the front. This was a painful, we can say, forced decision, which the Prime Minister made, discussing it with the Chief of the General Staff, the Minister of Defense, the President of Artsakh and other leaders who knew the situation.
This decision was not made in a hurry․ however, this was done by assessing all the dangers and risks of further developments. We must realize that the force we resisted, the Armenian army resisted, was not only Azerbaijan. It was the Turkish command staff, there were terrorists and countless weapons that were simply dropped on Artsakh", Avinyan said.
