The issue of handing over territories was the only specific subject that did not rise to any misinterpretations in these negotiations. The RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced this live on Facebook.
"If there had been a war earlier, I think the results would have been worse, for many objective and subjective reasons", Pashinyan said.
Referring to the question - why the war was not prevented, if there were presigns before that, Pashinyan said: "If I decided that it was necessary to prevent it, then I should have come and say: "You know, dear people, we have such a choice, either we hand over at least 5 districts without clarifying the status of Nagorno Karabakh, or we get a war".
Why didn't I say that, first of all, because I didn't want us to give up like that?. I believed that we could fight for the rights of our Artsakh people, and I still believe", Pashinyan said, noting that even a few days ago he used the phrase "painful compromise", which had a bad response.
"As to why the war was not prevented on the second, third or fourth day, in response to this question, the Prime Minister said: "Initially, the war was quite successful for the Armenian side. Second, in fact, the condition for preventing the war was the same: handing over 5 territories without a clear mechanism to clarify the status of Nagorno Karabakh, if we do not have much success on the battlefield. Moreover, after the start of the war, it would no longer be about 5 territories, but about 7, with a wider segment”.
As to why such a decision was not made in any of the stages, then, according to Pashinyan, "The Defense Army, the General Staff, we all wanted to turn the tide of the war, and such a painful decision was made when it was obvious that we do not have the opportunity to change the course of the war. The goal was to avoid the worst”.
