In an interview with Public TV, the RA Defense Minister David Tonoyan assured that during the war the Armenian side did its best to achieve maximum success, but that "we had such a geopolitical situation that we acted in a total blockade of armaments, military equipment and supplies".
"Apart from military operations, the impossible has been done from the rear to provide combat armament, equipment. The Armed Forces, from conscripts and heroic youth to generals and mobilization resources, have done maximum of their power. We have resisted the tremendous, super-equipped forces of Azerbaijan," Tonoyan said, noting that the Armenian side also has been armed, but in terms of quantity and resources, the capabilities of Armenia and Azerbaijan are incomparable.
The Minister stressed that Azerbaijan had open support from Turkey not only in terms of human resources but also in terms of armaments, also in terms of thousands of terrorists and mercenaries who were resisted by our army.
"I assure you that the maximum has been done. We had a big problem in terms of the enemy's air supremacy, which we managed to neutralize from time to time, but the fifth generation equipment used by Azerbaijan with the help of Turkey made our response impossible in some cases," he said.
According to Tonoyan, the situation in the Artsakh Republic at the moment is quite calm, controllable, the hostilities have been completely stopped, there are rare shootings, the Russian peacekeeping forces are deploying over very quickly.
"The deployment is carried out from Armenia through Goris and Lachin to Stepanakert, after which the peacekeeping forces will be deployed along the line of contact on the Nagorno Karabakh border," the minister said.
Regarding the trilateral agreement, the Minister of Defense said that this was the maximum that could be done in terms of the deployment of Russian peacekeeping forces, the best option, which was developed in a very short period of time.
"Please pay more attention to the fact that this document refers more to the peacekeeping forces. We are grateful to the Russian Federation for receiving that support," Tonoyan said.
