The President of the Republic of Armenia Armen Sarkissian gave an interview to "Ukraine 24" TV channel. He spoke about the situation in Nagorno Karabakh, where heavy fighting has been going on for more than a month.
The RA President said that this war was unleashed by Azerbaijan on September 27 with the strong support of Turkey.
"I think this war is absolutely unfounded. But it was both expected and unexpected. It was expected in the sense that in the last few years they were obviously preparing for this war. It was unexpected because there was a negotiation process anyway, and it has not been stopped by anyone, and those negotiations have been going on for about 20 years, they were quite successful. Of course, there were days when this or that party was satisfied with them or not, in any case, any negotiation is much better than the war," President Sarkissian told.
The reporter from "Ukraine 24" wondered why the ceasefire agreement reached during the conflict was not observed.
President Sarkissian noted that these attempts failed for a very simple reason: except the two sides of the conflict, the Republic of Artsakh and Azerbaijan, there is also a third side which is not interested in a ceasefire.
"This side is Turkey!"
"Unfortunately, Karabakh is not alone in the history to be destabilized by Turkey. In fact, it is doing everything to destroy all possible status quos. Turkey is creating hotbeds of instability around it. Look, they were first in Egypt, then in Libya and then in Iraq. They are talking about the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, but they themselves have invaded Iraq. Turkey is creating instability in the Eastern Mediterranean, it is in conflict with Greece and Cyprus. That is, it is creating instability everywhere," he said.
