The shelling of Nagorno Karabakh can be described as a war crime, said the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights.
In her statement, Michelle Bachelet stressed that the ongoing shelling of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone and its settlements violates international humanitarian law.
"We are seeing terrible consequences since September. I have repeatedly called on the parties to take all possible measures to avoid or at least minimize civilian casualties and damage to civilian infrastructure, including schools and hospitals, to distinguish between civilians and combatants, and between civilian and military targets.
Instead, houses were destroyed, streets were turned into rubble, and people were forced to seek safety in basements" said the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights.
