Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has responded to the possibility of a new format of talks on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, RIA Novosti reported.
The question is how Moscow views the formation of a format of conflict talks in which Russia, Turkey, Armenia and Azerbaijan will participate.
Lavrov noted that Moscow does not support a military solution to the conflict. He also recalled the joint statement of the Presidents of Russia, the United States and France, as leaders of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs, calling for an immediate ceasefire.
"In a joint statement adopted by the Armenian and Azeri counterparts in Moscow on October 10, the format of the negotiation process remained unchanged", Lavrov said.
The Russian Foreign Minister also spoke about the number of mercenaries transferred from the Middle East to the conflict zone, which is approaching 2,000.
"Of course, we are concerned about the internationalization of the Karabakh conflict and the involvement of militants from the Middle East. We have repeatedly called on foreign players to use their opportunities to prevent the transfer of mercenaries, the number of whom, according to available information, is already approaching 2,000 in the conflict zone", Lavrov said.
