Statement of the Russian Foreign Ministry in connection with the
address of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia N. Pashinyan to the President of the Russian Federation V. Putin. 1870-31-10-2020.
"In connection with the appeal of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia N. Pashinyan to the President of the Russian Federation V. Putin with a request to start consultations with a view to determining the type and volume of assistance, which the Russian Federation can provide to the Republic of Armenia to ensure its security, RF reaffirm the commitment of the Russian Federation to its allied obligations towards the Republic of Armenia, including those arising from the Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Armenia of 29 August 1997.
In accordance with the Treaty, Russia will provide all necessary assistance to Yerevan if the clashes are transferred directly to the territory of Armenia.
Once again, we call upon the parties to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict to immediately cease fire, de-escalate tensions and return to substantive negotiations in order to achieve a peaceful settlement on the basis of basic principles in line with the agreements reached by the Foreign Ministers of the Russian Federation, the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Armenia in Moscow on October 10 this year", the statement reads.
