On October 24, within the framework of his working visit to the United States, Armenian Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan had an online meeting with Frank Pallone, Jackie Speier, Co-Chairs of the House Committee on Armenian Affairs, and Adam Schiff, Deputy Chairman of that Committee.
The interlocutors referred to the situation in the Nagorno Karabakh conflict zone, after the aggression unleashed by Azerbaijan. Mnatsakanyan drew the attention of the congressmen to the facts of deliberate targeting of the civilian population and infrastructure of Artsakh by the Azerbaijani armed forces during the hostilities, numerous violations of the norms of international humanitarian law and war crimes.
The Armenian Foreign Minister also expressed concern over Turkey's direct involvement in the Azerbaijani aggression, which is manifested in both direct military participation and the transfer of foreign armed terrorists to Azerbaijan. According to the Minister, the decision of the Azerbaijani leadership to turn the country into a center of international terrorism poses a serious threat to regional security.
Mnatsakanyan stressed that this aggression unleashed by Azerbaijan against the people of Artsakh is a threat to the existential, physical security of the peaceful population of Artsakh, which makes it imperative for the international community to take clear and urgent steps to neutralize this threat.
The interlocutors agreed that immediate measures should be taken to establish a ceasefire and counteract the steps by Azerbaijan to deploy foreign militants in the region.
