Within the framework of his working visit to the United States, Armenian Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan had a remote meeting with the Speaker of the US House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi, on October 23. Lilit Makunts, Chairwoman of the Armenia-US Friendship Group of the RA National Assembly, also took part in the meeting.
During the conversation, Minister Mnatsakanyan spoke in detail about the large-scale war unleashed against Artsakh by the military-political leadership of Azerbaijan since September 27, and the humanitarian situation created as a result.
Mnatsakanyan stressed that the pre-planned aggression by Azerbaijan is accompanied by numerous war crimes, including the use of weapons prohibited by international conventions, targeting civilians and civilian infrastructure, religious and places of worship.
"All this is an existential threat to the security of the peaceful population of Artsakh, to which the international community can counteract by fully exercising the right of the people of Artsakh to self-determination through recognition of independence", he said.
According to the Foreign Minister, Turkey's direct involvement in the hostilities, which is reflected in its direct political and military support to Azerbaijan, the deployment of foreign armed terrorists in the conflict zone, is a threat to regional security and peace.
The RA Minister of Foreign Affairs thanked the US House of Representatives for the recognition of the Armenian Genocide, emphasizing the personal contribution of Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
