The reception of the EU Ambassador to Armenia was quite high, the answers were clear, although there were some disagreements over the wording.
Armine Melkonyan, a member of the initiative group, stated this in a talk with journalists after the meeting with EU Ambassador Andrea Victorin.
She noted that they expressed concern to ambassador over the silence of international organizations on the events in Artsakh, emphasizing that this was the case during the April 2016 war.
"We reminded that in 2016 reports of torture of Armenian prisoners were submitted to international organizations, but there was no proper response. We showed the ambassador photos documenting the inhuman treatment toward Armenian servicemen. The ambassador assured that they had seen all the photos and videos and transferred them to Brussels ", Melkonyan said.
According to her, the ambassador said that Europe sympathizes with the Armenian nation. "Ms. Victorin noted that Europe knows that Azerbaijan started the war at the hands of Turkey. In response to our observation, if they know why the EU called the Armenian people an aggressor in the first statement, and then, after the speech of the RA Foreign Minister, softened the assessment, the ambassador stammered a little, noting that EU decisions are not made unilaterally, but jointly. She expressed hope that the EU countries will make a fair assessment", Melkonyan said.
According to Melkonyan, the ambassador's position was very pro-Armenian, during the conversation she was even touched. "She mentioned that she was in great pain during the rocket attack on the Church of the Savior in Shushi", the member of the initiative group concluded.
Today a group of citizens protested in front of the EU Office in Armenia. Three of them were received by the Head of the EU Delegation to Armenia, Ambassador Andrea Victorin.
