The Chairman of the Union of Manufacturers and Businessmen of Armenia, Co-Chair of the Turkish - Armenian Business Development Council (TABDC) Arsen Ghazaryan made a statement, informing that the activity of the Armenian-Turkish Business Development Council is temporarily suspended.
"Since 1997, the Armenian-Turkish Business Development Council has been established, the task of which was to defuse the historically formed tensions between the parties by activating economic ties, to support the creation of an atmosphere conducive to the establishment of good-neighborly relations.
Businessmen on both sides have made great efforts to establish a constructive dialogue and economic cooperation, but each time they have faced various obstacles and destructive attitudes of the Turkish authorities. Moreover, as an expression of goodwill, the Armenian side, since 1993, has unilaterally allowed the entry of Turkish goods to Armenia, seeing the opposite position of Turkey.
Today, when the Turkish military-political leadership has once again adopted an openly hostile and genocidal policy towards the Armenian people, when it openly incites and intervenes militarily in the attempts to resolve the Karabakh conflict by Azerbaijan, it supplies arms, military specialists and mercenaries, I, as a Co-Chair of the Armenian-Turkish Business Development Council, announce about the temporary termination of the Council's activity.
At the same time, I call on Armenian businessmen and relevant state agencies to temporarily suspend the import of all types of Turkish goods to Armenia", the statement reads.
To remind - the RA Ministry of Economy has submitted a bill for public discussion, which proposes to temporarily ban the import of goods of Turkish origin to the Republic of Armenia.
