The French President Emmanuel Macron has announced that more than 300 Syrian Islamists have been transferred to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone via Gaziantep, Turkey, to be involved in hostilities by Azerbaijani forces.
"I can state that more than 300 Syrian Islamist militants, who were earlier evacuated from the Aleppo region, have been transferred to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone via Turkish Gaziantep. This is a very serious new fact that is changing the situation. This is an established fact, these people have been identified, all of them have ties with the "Islamic State" terrorist group. I have discussed this issue with Russian President Vladimir Putin, who has confirmed that Russia also has this information", Macron said during a briefing on the results of the first day of the EU summit.
He stressed that France is in close contact with the leaders of the other OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chair countries and is preparing joint peace initiatives. Macron also drew NATO's attention to Turkey's behavior. He urged Turkey to explain the arrival of jihadist militants in Azerbaijan and urged NATO to confront its ally.
"The red line has been crossed, which is unacceptable. I urge all NATO partners to assess the behavior of a NATO member" he said.
