In a letter to Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, 50 US Congressmen demanded that the Trump administration invest all available resources to deter further aggressive actions by Azerbaijan.
Recalling that not so long ago Azerbaijan threatened to strike even the Armenian nuclear power plant, the congressmen stated that the facts show that the latest attack was carefully planned in advance.
"Turkey 's material assistance and encouragement is an additional cause for concern. Turkish involvement poses a threat to an ongoing regional conflict that could jeopardize key US security priorities due to a humanitarian catastrophe," the letter said.
The congressmen noticed that the policy of equality between the parties had failed. "It has been a long time since the United States and other members of the OSCE Minsk Group have set false signs of equality between Armenia and Azerbaijan, even when the latter threatens war and rejects the observation mission along the line of contact", say congressmen.
Frank Pallone, Adam Schiff, Linda Sanchez and dozens of other lawmakers called for unequivocal condemnation of the Azeri aggression, forcing Baku to accept US lawmakers' offer of fire monitoring and to work with Turkey to make it clear that helping Azerbaijan is a regional threat.
