The RA Human Rights Defender condemns the Azerbaijani shelling of journalists carrying out professional work in Artsakh.
"According to the information received at the moment, on October 1, 2 journalists of the French "La Monde" periodical, the journalist of "24News․am" and the cameraman of "ArmeniaTV" were injured, the other representatives of some media outlets came under targeted fire.
The Azerbaijani armed forces also targeted the car transporting journalists of the international news agency "Agence France-Presse (AFP)". They are carrying out a journalistic mission in Artsakh. As a result of that the journalists were seriously injured. Le Monde reporter is in critical condition, he is undergoing surgery at Stepanakert Medical Center.
The "PRESS" logo also had the journalist car.
All this clearly indicates the indiscriminate targeting of civilian settlements. In the case of journalists it is even more condemnable - they are under special protection.
Journalism is especially important during war or armed attacks, as a guarantee not only to provide information to the world about the real situation, but also to protect civilians", said Ombudsman Arman Tatoyan.
