On September 8 the RA National Assembly Speaker Ararat Mirzoyan received the Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II.
Expressing gratitude for accepting the invitation to the meeting, the NA Speaker noted that a number of issues of public importance related to the church-state, church-educational system relations are being discussed now.
He also said that the Armenian Apostolic Church has been one of the pillars of the Armenian nation for centuries and in the 21st century continues to coperate closely with the state for the benefit of the Armenian people.
The Catholicos of All Armenians, thanking for the reception, noted that the Armenian people and state face many issues, and the legislative mission of the National Assembly is very important in facing those challenges.
In this regard, the Catholicos wished effective work to the Speaker of the National Assembly and the deputies. He also said that the Armenian Apostolic Church has been cooperating closely with the National Assembly since independence and that cooperation has had a positive effect on the development of legislation regulating church-state relations.
Ararat Mirzoyan and the Catholicos also touched upon issues related to international conventions and educational standards. Karekin II reaffirmed that the Apostolic Church will continue its efforts to strengthen the homeland, strengthen the state and build a happy, peaceful and secure life for the people.
The Speaker of the Parliament, in his turn, stressed that the base of the activity of the National Assembly is to ensure the eternity of our statehood and nation.
