Armenia’s Foreign Ministry issued a statement on the violation of the rights of officer Gurgen Alaverdyan who appeared under the Azerbaijani jurisdiction.
“We strongly condemn the degrading treatment of officer Gurgen Alaverdyan, who appeared under the Azerbaijani jurisdiction on August 22. This is a flagrant and gross violation of the international humanitarian law.
Publicly insulting the dignity of Gurgen Alaverdyan, Azerbaijan denies "the right to respect for the dignity of prisoners of war in any circumstances" asserted by civilized humanity and in the Third Geneva Convention. This behavior is typical for well-known terrorist groups and Azerbaijan as well.
The dictatorial regime of Azerbaijan, while feeding its people with disgraceful propaganda and Armenophobia, tries to conceal the serious failures of its army in the July battles with fake texts imposed on prisoners of war.
"Azerbaijan's continuing violations of international humanitarian law seriously undermine the creation of an atmosphere conducive to peace."
