The United States Government through the State Department and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), has provided an additional $ 1,436,000 to Armenia to combat COVID-19.
In total the US government has provided about $ 4 million in emergency assistance to Armenia in 2020. The United States provides vital assistance by partnering with the Government of Armenia, international humanitarian partners, and other interested parties, to prioritize areas in need of investment.
With this new $ 1 million assistance, USAID will support agriculture and tourism to recover economically from the epidemic and adapt their needs to the realities of the post-coronavirus world.
The additional $ 436,000 provided by the State Department will be used to meet the needs of vulnerable migrants who are unable to return to their homes due to the epidemic. Thanks to this assistance, they will have housing, food, as well as access to medical and social services.
In addition to the above support for the fight against COVID-19, the United States has invested more than $ 1.57 billion in Armenia over the past 20 years, of which about $ 106 million is in the healthcare sector.
For decades, the United States has been the world's largest provider of bilateral health care assistance. Since 2009, more than $ 100 billion in global health care and nearly $ 70 billion in humanitarian assistance have been provided with generous funding from American taxpayers.
With the threat of infectious disease anywhere in the world can become a threat everywhere, the United States urges other donors to contribute to the global fight against COVID-19.
