The regular sitting of the Security Council chaired by the Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan is taking place in Yerevan.
The Prime Minister Pashinyan made a speech in which he noted:
"Today we are holding a regular session of the Security Council of Armenia. During the previous sitting, we adopted the new National Security Strategy, and it is noteworthy that the urgency and viability of that document were confirmed very shortly after that decision. It was noted that we accurately assessed our country's security threats, and in general, the strategic assessment of our security environment was of high quality.
After our previous sitting, the well-known events of Tavush took place, the victorious battles. And the following should be recorded: Throughout the previous period, Azerbaijan had adopted a position according to which the non-settlement of the Karabakh issue by military means was presented as a concession to both Armenia and the international community.
And all this time we have been urging the Azerbaijani leadership that they should not speak to Armenia from the position of force, in the language of force, it is unpromising rhetoric. And, in fact, the victorious battles in July proved that there is no military solution to the Karabakh issue. I think it is time for the Azerbaijani authorities to accept this, because I have said many times before that if there is a military solution to the Karabakh issue, then the people of Artsakh can state that they have solved it long ago.
It is very important to note that Armenia's position on Karabakh has been and continues to be constructive. Our position is that the Artsakh issue should be settled through peaceful negotiations, and the position of the Republic of Armenia, in fact, has always been this, regardless of the political background of governments and authorities.
The next factor, which is recorded in the National Security Strategy and expressed very quickly, is Turkey's destructive policy in our region and in the world in general. I believe that Turkey's destabilizing and destructive activities are causing significant concerns for our partners in the Middle East, as well as in the Eurasian region and the European region.
This is an agenda that has already been set, and what we do on that agenda should also be the subject of a major discussion in the Security Council, in the government, in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. We will also discuss issues related to this in today's sitting.
In general, the most important statement we need to make is that the Republic of Armenia is able to meet its security challenges. At the same time, we must set ourselves the task of increasing the level of manageability of the security environment every week, every month, every year. And the Security Council is the right working format where such issues should be discussed and resolved".
A number of other issues related to the security sphere are on the agenda of the Security Council session.
