The Chief Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs Zareh Sinanyan summed up his visit to Lebanon on August 9-11 at a press conference today. Not only were humanitarian aid delivered to a friendly country by 3 planes, but the condition and needs of the local Armenian community were assessed on the spot, he said.
"We heard about the concerns in the community a year ago, but this explosion made it necessary the Republic of Armenia to have a representative there, who will get acquainted with the situation, and on the basis of which the RA Government will work out short-term, medium-term and long-term programs", Sinanyan noted.
The Armenian delegation met with Lebanese-Armenian religious leaders in Lebanon. There were also meetings with our compatriots representing different parties and cultural institutions.
"We participated in the visits of the fact-finding group assessing the needs, visited the homes of the individuals injured in the explosion, in order to get acquainted with the victims and see what kind of losses they have," Sinanyan added.
He also informed that the number of Armenians injured in the explosion in Beirut varies between 250 and 300, the number of deads is 13.
