The building of the Armenian Parliament, in support of fraternal Lebanon, was illuminated with the colors of the Lebanese flag. The Lebanese flag and the coat of arms of Beirut also fly on the walls of the City Hall. Yerevan and Beirut was recognized as a sister cities in 1997.
Earlier Yeravan Mayor Hayk Marutyan sent a message of condolences on behalf of the people of Yerevan to his Beirut counterpart Jamal Itani. According to the data at this time, 11 Armenians were killed and several dozen were injured in the explosion in Beirut.
It should be noted that a few decades ago the number of Armenians in Lebanon was 300,000, but due to the civil war more than 50,000 Armenians emigrated from that country.
Lebanon is the main Armenian community in the Middle East. The Armenian community was formed here by Armenians who survived the Armenian Genocide (1915) and came to Lebanon.
