The government session started today with words of condolences to the friendly people of Lebanon and the government on the tragedy in Beirut.
"On behalf of the Government of the Republic of Armenia I would like to express my condolences to the families of the dead and wish a speedy recovery to all the injured. Lebanon is among Armenia's closest friends. Our countries and peoples are connected by many historical and cultural ties. Beirut was the capital of the Armenian Diaspora of the 20th century.
Beirut has been the epicenter of the Armenian religious, political and cultural life for decades. To this day it retains its unique significance, its enormous role as the most important center of the Armenian presence in the Middle East.
At this hard time, we can not remain indifferent to the needs of the Lebanese people, the Armenian community in Beirut. The Republic of Armenia has expressed its readiness to assist in overcoming the consequences of the tragedy of that city. "We will do our best to help the Lebanese government and the local Armenian community"m said Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.
He noted that all those who want to provide personal assistance and donations, it's opened a special account for money transfers by the Hayastan All-Armenian Fund at the Central Bank and online fundraising platform on the Foundation's website.
"I would like to note that the Republic of Armenia stands by our compatriot brothers and sisters in Beirut, every effort will be made to reach them for help, to get out of the hard situation", the Prime Minister said.
He said that the High Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs will leave for Beirut with Armenian plane to assess the needs of the Armenian community.
