The RA High Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs Zareh Sinanyan made a post on his Facebook page, referring to the explosion in Lebanon.
"A powerful explosion rocked the Lebanese port of Beirut in the evening. Preliminary information was received that the powerful explosion damaged buildings and apartments.
Near the port is the Armenian-populated Burj Hamoud district, where there was damage. Immediately after the incident, I called the RA Ambassador to Lebanon Vahagn Atabekyan. The ambassador noted that he had already contacted various organizations to find out how much the initial damage was and whether there were any casualties. At the moment, we are talking only about one wounded person, who was damaged by a broken glass after the explosion.
The RA Embassy, 15 km away from the explosion, was damaged, all the windows were broken. There is no information about deaths yet. We will make additional updates if new information is available.
God protect our compatriots, the people of Beirut", Sinanyan wrote.
