The tense situation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border is alarming. The Nagorno-Karabakh conflict must be resolved peacefully. According to RIA Novosti, this was stated by the head of the Information and Printing Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry Alexei Zaytsev.
"Russia has received with great alarm the recent escalation of the situation on the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan, countries, which are friendly to us. We are convinced that the long-standing Nagorno Karabakh conflict, like any other dispute in the international arena, needs to be resolved exclusively through peaceful means, through diplomatic negotiations", Zaytsev said at a briefing.
He stressed that the Russian authorities are making every effort to prevent further escalation, including through operational cooperation with key partners in the region.
Zaytsev particularly mentioned the recent telephone conversations of Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov with Armenian and Azerbaijani officials, as well as the discussion with the Turkish side on the current situation in the Caucasus and, in particular, the settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict.
