The International Council of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) has awarded Armenia the status of a country with satisfactory progress, which is the highest rating. The Deputy Prime Minister Tigran Avinyan wrote about it on his Facebook page.
"As of July 9, 2020, Armenia is one of the 9 out of 53 EITI member countries that have been granted that status, moreover, this is our first assessment and we have the highest result at once.
The Council expressed its satisfaction with the Government of the Republic of Armenia and the Multi-beneficiary group for efforts of exemplary progress in the implementation of the EITI standarts.
A statement issued by the International Secretariat of the EITI described Armenia as a country "rapidly moving towards greater transparency.
"I would like to note that the Government of Armenia is fully committed to implementing the EITI principles of good management which are crucial for the reforms in the mining sector," the Deputy Prime Minister wrote.
