Representatives of all factions of the French parliament issued a joint statement on the tension caused by the provocation of the Azerbaijani armed forces on the Armenia-Azerbaijan border.
"We, the French parliamentarians representing all the parliamentary factions, express our deep concern over the resumed hostile actions between Armenia and Azerbaijan. The shelling on the northern borders of the two countries has already cost dozens of lives, which is already too much.
Just to condemn these clashes without blaming those responsible will mean saying nothing. We all know that the resumption of hostilities is a direct consequence of strategy of escalating tensions by the dictator of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev. War is a convenient loophole, a way to avoid for them who want to divert the attention of their people from the humiliations that they themselves have imposed( deprivation of fundamental freedoms, bribery, patronage and robbery).
In this regard, the situation has become even more complicated after the Velvet Revolution, when Armenia relies on strengthening its rule of law and developing high technology for its economic progress, while Azerbaijan is wasting its energy resources, which endangers its ecological future. Moreover, this new Azeri aggression directly targeting the territory of Armenia shows that Nagorno Karabakh is only a reason for the Azeri regime. By presenting Armenia as "Western Azerbaijan", Azerbaijan's main goal is the complete elimination of the Armenian presence in the region, thus striving to end more than a century of genocide.
In this regard we strongly condemn the criminal assistance provided by Turkey to the Azerbaijani militant undertakings. It is unacceptable that the member state of the OSCE Minsk Group, which is called to promote the settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh-Azerbaijan conflict and the establishment of regional solidarity, on the contrary, further complicates the situation by adding fuel to the fire.
Both Aliyev's and Erdogan's actions, aimed at preventing a decline in popularity due to foreign military adventures, are destabilizing the entire region.
After the military occupation of Cyprus and northern Syria and the brutal intervention in Libya, Turkey's dangerous involvement in the South Caucasus is a new threat to regional peace, and thus a new direct attack on the interests of France and the European Union.
Not tolerating such gross violations of the values of the Charter of the United Nations, we call on the (French) government to take political and effective measures based on this situation. In this case we do not hesitate to say that to support Armenia against Azerbaijan means to support the right to life", the French deputies wrote in the statement.
