On July 15, Deputy Foreign Minister of Armenia Avet Adonts had a video call with Miltiadis Varvitsiotis, the Alternate Minister of Foreign Affairs of Greece, at the latter’s initiative.
Alternate Minister of Foreign Affairs of Greece presented the priorities of Greek Chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe.
Deputy Foreign Minister Avet Adonts highly valued the priorities of Greek Chairmanship of the CoE Committee of Ministers reiterating the support of Armenia in implementing them. The Deputy Foreign Minister of Armenia particularly stressed the importance of protection of human life and public health amid the COVID-19 pandemic, based on full respect of the principles of human rights, democracy and the rule of law.
In the context of the Armenia-Greece-Cyprus trilateral cooperation, the Deputy Foreign Minister of Armenia highlighted the importance of holding the summit, as well as the activation of works in different spheres.
The interlocutors touched upon issues of mutual interest of the regional and international agenda. Avet Adonts presented to his counterpart the situation in the northeastern part of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border caused by Azerbaijani aggression from July 12. In this context, referring to the statement issued by the Foreign Ministry of Turkey, the Deputy Minister of Armenia condemned Turkey's attempts to instigate instability in the region.
The sided also touched upon the decision of the Turkish authorities to convert Hagia Sophia, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, into a mosque.
