Today the Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov had separate telephone conversations with the Armenian Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan and the Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammedyarov. This is stated in a statement posted on the official website of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
"The aggravation of the situation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border was discussed. Sergey Lavrov called on the parties to cease fire immediately, to show restraint, taking into account the commitments made, as well as the proposals of Russia, the United States, France, the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs and the Personal Representative of the OSCE Chairman-in-Office.
It was stressed that Russia will continue to fulfill its mediation mission in contacts with both Baku and Yerevan. The Russian side also stressed that all members of the Minsk Group should take a responsible approach to assessing the situation, avoiding statements and actions that could promt further escalation of tensions", the statement said.
