Dozens of Armenian media outlets have been under the DDoS attack since last night. Information security specialist and media expert Samvel Martirosyan wrote about this on his Facebook page.
"We discussed the specifics of the attack with Artur Papyan and Ruben Muradyan and came to the conclusion that there is a high probability that the DDoS attack was carried out by the Azerbaijani special services or a similar structure, which involved several thousand Azerbaijani citizens in the attack, providing them with special software which is installed on the computer and carry out an attack.
Why did we come to such a conclusion?
a. There are thousands of devices with Azerbaijani IP addresses in the attacking computers.
b ․ Azerbaijani hacker groups do not report the attack.
c ․ The number of participating devices may mean that Azerbaijani hackers or special services have infected a large number of Azerbaijani citizens, or that the citizens knowingly took part in the attack.
d ․ Consciously taking part in an attack means providing people with a special program, then explaining - how to install and run it. With this volume this would only be possible through a large flashmob. We have witnessed such cases in many countries but no such thing has been observed in Azerbaijan.
e․ Why we conclude that the program is distributed internally, at the state level - It is possible that attackers are civil servants or members of the ruling party of Azerbaijan. As for programs, for example it can be LOIC, HOIC type open source programs", explaining Samvel Martirosyan.
