The situation with the new type of coronavirus in Armenia remains hard, the Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said during today's briefing. He reminded that about 1000 new cases were registered on Saturday and Sunday and the healthcare system continues to work in a heavy mode.
"In many countries where the epidemic situation seems to be under control, there are rumors that a new wave of coronavirus is starting. Our strategy remains the same. We see that this situation can be overcome by changing the individual behavior and by cooperation of citizens. Only administrative methods will not work if there are no real changes in mass behavior in Armenia”,said the Prime Minister.
Pashinyan again urged the citizens to follow the anti-epidemic rules: to wear a mask, to keep a social distance, to disinfect their hands.
He thanked the Red Cross Society for the 30 points opened in the capital, which are raising awareness and distributing masks to citizens, expressing hope that new groups will join the initiative.
"I repeat that our goal is not to fine anyone. On the contrary with fines we want to encourage citizens to wear a mask, especially since its effectiveness is already an internationally proven fact. Today, we can say with confidence that we can overcome this situation with quality wearing masks, with maintaining social distance and regular hand sanitization.
Once we see that our health care system is no longer able to serve the citizens in such extreme tensions, we will have no choice but to return to the regime of restrictions, knowing that it will be a big blow to the economy. My hope is that we will still realize the seriousness of the situation and the change in our behavior will be the tool with which we will overcome this epidemic", said the Prime Minister.
The PM also said that everything is leading us to prolong the state of emergency at least once. Today's pace shows that we cannot do anything else, he said.
