French-Armenian Zhanna Barseghyan has been elected mayor of Strasbourg. Edmon Marukyan, the leader of the RA NA "Bright Armenia" faction, wrote about this on his Facebook page.
"French-Armenian Zhanna Barseghyan has been elected mayor of Strasbourg, continuing the path of her grandmother's mother, who was one of the first women parliamentarians in the first Republic of Armenia.
PS. As you know, Strasbourg is considered the second working city for PACE delegates. I congratulate Mrs. Barseghyan on being elected head of the European Political Capital", he wrote.
Barseghyan was born in Paris but moved to Strasbourg in 2002 where she still lives. There she studied French-German law and became a lawyer and environmentalist.
As an eco-activist Barseghyan has participated in many environmental projects. She is leading the list of France's "Europe, Ecology, Greens" party in the elections.
