According to the version of World Competitiveness Index 2017-18, Armenia is one of the world's rear guards in terms of road quality. It ranks 85th among about 140 countries.
After the revolution the government initiated a huge construction project, aiming to repair most of the roads. The quality of new road construction is the most important requirement in the process.
The Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Suren Papikyan says they have set a goal to improve about 70 percent of Armenia's highways in five years.
